The Tale...

Michael Martins, a Portuguese multi-generational Fado vocalist, overcame his diagnosis of clinical deafness by starting his vocal training with Canadian Touring Opera singer Brenda Burger before joining the Canadian Academy of Vocal Music at the age of fifteen.

His determination and passion for music have led him to opportunities ranging from regularly performing at his local congregations to performing in 2004 Ontario for the Lung Association holiday event in support of lung surgery research. Later that year, he placed among the top fifty contestants on the nationally broadcast 2006 cycle of Canadian Idol, leading him to media features with OMNI News and several Toronto print publications such as The Portuguese Sun and Voice Newspaper. Michael Martins’ proudest accomplishment to date was his International Portuguese Music Award (IPMA) nomination in the category of best new song in Jazz/Classic/Contemporary for his debut single Caught in Your Asylum.

Michael Martins in 2015 released his debut album The Memories of a MADMAN, available on iTunes, Google Play and Spotify, which includes the hit singles Caught in Your Asylum and BOMBSHELL. Michael is currently working on filming his next two music videos, which will include his anti-bullying single/campaign BRAVEHEART, and he is currently developing his stage tour for MADMAN.

Michael is a French and homeroom kindergarten teacher with eight years of experience in the elementary sector. Currently, he has aspirations of being a published children's book author with his first book STAR'S DREAM. He has extensive experience with writing music and academic works, having published his English to Portuguese translation of an academic Religious Studies paper through Harvard University by way of the University of Toronto. He hopes to fulfill this dream of being a published author in the very near future in 2021…
